(Sierra Vista, AZ – November 25, 2018) – Domestic violence impacts women of all races, ethnicities, and socio-economic backgrounds. Which is why the Women and Children’s Services Department at Canyon Vista Medical Center is collecting items beginning November 26 through December 14 for House of Hope in Douglas and Forgach House in Sierra Vista. The shelters provide assistance to women and children escaping domestic violence. The Forgach House provides victims a safe place to stay and offers counseling, parenting classes, transportation, and a women’s support group. The House for Hope provides housing, food, health care, transportation, legal referrals and employment assistance. As women’s health nurses, the Women and Children’s Services aim is to support and empower all women, especially those who are most vulnerable. Pregnancy is an especially dangerous time for women in domestic violence situations.

Dana Albalate, Director of Women & Children’s Services, said, “The holiday season is dangerous for many women in domestic violence situations. Pregnant women are especially vulnerable. Our department decided to help local women in need by gathering donations, such as new cosmetics, hygiene products, purses, diapers, and so on for the Forgach House in Sierra Vista and House of Hope in Douglas.”
