CVMC Launches Direct Behavioral Health Intake Process to Enhance Emergency Mental Healthcare
December 17, 2025
Canyon Vista Medical Center (CVMC) is proud to announce a new intake and assessment process for patients experiencing mental and behavioral health emergencies. These patients will be able to bypass the traditional Emergency Department and proceed directly to assessment within the behavioral health unit.
“Our goal with this change is to provide mental health evaluations in a setting designed for the needs of these patients that is staffed by mental and behavioral healthcare professionals 24/7,” said Keesa Flake, Behavioral Health Unit Director. “By creating a dedicated and therapeutic space for behavioral health intake, our goal is to provide a more accessible path to care for those in crisis.”
To support the new process, CVMC established a new intake and assessment area within the behavioral health unit. Behavioral health staff underwent specialized training for providing safe and timely assessments, and the hospital’s electronic medical record system has been adapted to promote a seamless and secure transition for patients.
The change underscores CVMC’s commitment to evolving with the needs of the community and improving access to mental health services. The behavioral health unit continues to provide a wide range of inpatient behavioral health services in a calm, structured environment designed for healing.
“Not every injury treated at CVMC is physical,” said Scott Avery, CEO of Canyon Vista Medical Center. “Mental health crises deserve the same level of urgency and specialized care as any medical emergency. This new process is an important step forward in making sure our community members receive compassionate care, in the right setting, at the right time, and we will continue exploring ways to further expand our behavioral health capabilities and advance our mission of making communities healthier.”
