CVMC Upgrades Cardiac Catheterization Lab
January 26, 2026
Canyon Vista Medical Center (CVMC) has completed a $1.3 million upgrade to its Cardiac Catheterization Lab (Cath Lab), strengthening its commitment to providing advanced, life-saving heart care close to home.
The newly upgraded Cath Lab features cutting-edge imaging technology and enhanced diagnostic capabilities, allowing cardiologists to perform a wide range of interventional procedures with improved precision and efficiency. This investment builds on one of CVMC’s main goals of providing comprehensive cardiac care to the residents of Cochise County and surrounding communities.
Canyon Vista Medical Center is dedicated to ensuring that patients can receive high-quality cardiac care right here in Sierra Vista,” said Scott Avery, CEO of CVMC. “This upgrade represents our continued investment in technology and services that help save lives and keep care local for the people of Cochise County.”
The enhanced Cath Lab provides advanced imaging and interventional capabilities that allow for the diagnosis and treatment of heart blockages and other cardiac conditions without requiring patients to travel outside the area.
Procedures that can be performed in the upgraded lab include:
- Coronary angiogram (diagnostic and interventional, including stent placement)
- Right heart catheterization
- Pacemaker and defibrillator implantation
- Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI) – also known as angioplasty with stent
- Peripheral angiogram and intervention
- Cardioversion
Loop recorder implantation
“This is an exciting milestone for our hospital and our patients,” said Anna Thomas, Director of Cardiac Services. “In addition to our recent re-certification as an Accredited Chest Pain Primary PCI Center, the new technology enables our team to deliver faster, safer, and more precise intervention during our cardiac procedures, helping improve outcomes for those experiencing heart disease, which is the leading cause of death in the U.S., according to the American Heart Association.”
CVMC’s Cath Lab is staffed by a skilled, multidisciplinary team of cardiologists, nurses, and technologists who provide both emergency and scheduled cardiac procedures. As the largest healthcare facility in southeastern Arizona outside the Tucson metro area, CVMC continues to expand its capabilities to meet the growing healthcare needs of the region.
