CVMC Expands Surgical Capacity, Enhancing Care for Patients and Families
April 14, 2026
When a patient needs surgery, the experience is about more than the procedure itself—it’s about comfort, confidence and being surrounded by the people who matter most during recovery.
At Canyon Vista Medical Center (CVMC), that understanding is driving continued growth in surgical services. Over the past four months, the hospital has been steadily bringing four previously offline operating rooms back into service, expanding access to care for patients across Cochise County. Today, at least two of those rooms are fully operational, with additional capacity coming online in the months ahead.
This phased expansion is already making a difference by helping reduce wait times, increasing availability for procedures and giving surgeons more dedicated time to care for their patients.
“Our focus is always on the patient experience,” said Scott Avery, CEO of CVMC. “Expanding our operating rooms allows us to care for more people, more efficiently, while keeping that care rooted in the community.”
Healing Happens Best with Support Nearby
For many patients, one of the most important parts of recovery isn’t found in the operating room, it’s the ability to heal in a familiar place, with the support of family and friends close by.
By expanding surgical services locally, Canyon Vista is helping patients avoid the added burden of traveling long distances for care. Instead, they can undergo surgery and recover in an environment where they feel comfortable and supported.
Whether a patient is ready to return home quickly or needs additional time to recover, Canyon Vista provides continuum of care -- from inpatient services to rehabilitation support -- supporting a patient journey that is safe, smooth and personalized.
Technology Delivered with a Personal Touch
Behind every successful surgery is not only a skilled care team, but also the technology that supports them.
Canyon Vista continues to invest in new surgical tools that bring precision and innovation to the operating room. The da Vinci Xi robotic-assisted system allows surgeons to perform complex procedures using a minimally invasive approach, often resulting in less pain, smaller incisions and faster recovery times for patients.
For those needing knee or hip replacement surgery, Canyon Vista also offers the VELYS™ Robotic-Assisted Solution, a system that helps surgeons tailor each procedure to the individual patient. By using real-time data and precise guidance, the technology supports accurate implant placement and improved joint balance.
For patients, that can mean a smoother recovery, improved mobility and a quicker return to the activities they enjoy.
Growing to Meet the Needs of the Community
From orthopedic and general surgery to gynecology and urology, Canyon Vista’s surgical team continues to grow alongside the community it serves.
The reopening of additional operating rooms reflects a broader commitment to ensuring patients have access to high-quality care, delivered by teams they know and trust.
“As healthcare needs continue to grow, so does our responsibility to meet them,” said Mr. Avery. “This expansion allows us to care for our neighbors, friends and families with the level of excellence they deserve.”
