Close to Home: Canyon Vista’s First Cryoablation Patient Shares Her Story

October 29, 2026

When I learned I had kidney cancer, I knew I had to do something. I had already been through a lot with my health, including colon cancer, and because of my heart, I had been told surgery could be difficult for me. When I came to Canyon Vista, there was just a feeling that the people here were going to take care of me. The team explained the procedure very well. I could ask questions, and they were always willing to help. That was important to me because if I didn’t feel comfortable with what I was being told and what I believed in, I wouldn’t have done it.

One of the things that stood out most was the way everyone treated me. When the people around you are positive, friendly and smiling, it gives you an inner feeling that everything is going to be OK. You get the feeling you’re a person, not a number. And that is so important when you don’t feel good.

After my cryoablation procedure, I was doing great. The pain I had been experiencing was gone. I was also grateful that I could have the procedure here instead of traveling to Tucson. Traveling for medical care can be hard, especially when you don’t feel well or don’t have transportation.

I’ve told people about my experience because I believe in what this procedure did for me. I was the first patient to have cryoablation here, and while you never want someone else to have cancer, I hope people understand that this care is available here.

I’m very grateful for my doctors and the staff. I want people to understand that they can come here. They treated me well, they cared about me, and it has been a great experience.

About Cryoablation

Cryoablation is a minimally invasive, image-guided procedure that uses extreme cold to destroy targeted tissue while helping minimize damage to surrounding healthy tissue. At Canyon Vista Medical Center, the procedure is performed by the interventional radiology team and may be used to treat certain tumors in eligible patients.

Not every patient is a candidate for cryoablation. Talk with your healthcare provider to learn whether it may be an appropriate treatment option for you.
